Lying in the Sun

TAKE A LOOK PLEASE

TAKE A LOOK PLEASE

I am in the process of putting together a blog about the cots and Matthew Oldfield.

As I was doing so I looked more carefully at pictures of the bedroom where the McCann kids slept.

What struck me, was that above the bed where they say Madeleine slept there is a mirror on the wall.

I had never before appreciated that this item was a mirror.  Not until I looked more carefully at the images from Crimewatch 2013 did I see a reflection...and then a light came on - in my head!

Why would there be a mirror above a bed?  And why would anyone, any parent, put a young child to sleep in a bed where a mirror hung above it?   So very dangerous.

I looked closer at the scene.

The chest of drawers and a bedside cabinet, stuck together between two beds?   That wasn't right!

I decided the chest of drawers most likely should have been under the mirror to form a vanity area. And the single bed which was said to be Madeleine's, should have been at the other side of the bedside cabinet where the chest of drawers is.

I said this in the blog which I am putting together.

Something about this kept niggling at me, so I was not ready to publish the blog.

I went back to the blog this morning, to take another look at the images, to see what I was missing.

It suddenly struck me what it was.

Look at the two beds.

What is different about them?

Well I will tell you if you have not already noticed.

One has a headboard.   The other does not.  The bed that was Madeleine's does not!

And why it does not, is because the headboard for Madeleine's bed is BEHIND THE CHEST OF DRAWERS!

THEY MOVED THE BEDS IN THAT ROOM!

THEY MOVED THE BEDS!

Perhaps I have come late to the party on this one, and it has already been noted, nevertheless...

Maddie bedroom 2

Which bed did Madeleine sleep when on that vacation?

Was the bed below the mirror placed there to enable Oldfield's tale, that he saw the cots/twins, but not Madeleine?

Had that bed been in the position where it should have been - below the headboard - then Oldfield's story of not being able to see Madeleine, becomes even more unbelievable.

Did they move the bed against that wall to accommodate the cots?

Note also, the bottom end of 'Madeleine's bed' does not come close to the end of that wall closest to door.  Oldfield therefore could not have seen what he said he did.  Not from where he said he stood outside that bedroom door!

And 'Madeleine's bed?'   As there is no headboard (unlike the bed at the window) it stands to reason then, that the end of this bed does not come as far down the wall as it otherwise would, as the bed under the window does.  The differences in the lengths spanned by both beds is different.  The difference being the depth of the headboard.  A few inches?

I will publish the full blog - Gerry, Matt, Kate and the Cots, later today when I have made a few adjustments.
