They cannot both be true
The Murder Trial - recently broadcast the case of missing
person Arlene Fraser, her husband Nat having been found guilty of her murder.
During the proceedings, a witness was being it would seem
deliberately evasive causing the counsel questioning him to respond to the
replies given by the witness-
‘They cannot both be true’
The Sheriff then issuing the witness with the following
warning:
“Whether you are telling the truth or telling lies in
this court is not a matter for me it is a matter for the jury. What is a matter for me is, if a witness
wilfully refuses to answer questions that he must understand. Claims, not to be
able to remember things which he must be able to remember. Fences with questions, tries to avoid
answering questions. It can amount to a
contempt of court for which the individual witness may be punished. I have come to the view you have been
behaving in that way. Now when the questioning
continues I want you to bear in mind the warning that I have given you. Do you understand?
Out with the Court the Sheriff being interviewed said of
this witness:
“He hears a question and wants to answer a different
question or wants to go off on a tangent now why he is doing that, IS a question!”
I agree with the Sheriff's view that this
man was deliberately and wilfully refusing to answer questions which he did
understand, pretending not to remember that which he must be able to.
I agree with the Sheriff’s comment, for anyone to do that when questioned ‘IS a question!'
Both Kate and Gerry McCann adept at doing exactly this –
They answer a different question to the one asked of them, go off on a tangent. Their memory fails them when they do not wish to answer or are caught between the devil and the deep blue sea.
Now that IS a question!
Fiona Payne, Kate McCanns best friend had this to say to
police regarding the unlocked patio door, and as to whether Madeleine could get
out of the apartment, Kate McCann she said had told her the following at dinner on that fateful night:
“She did, she
brought it up and that she, I mean this is awful in retrospect as well, she
asked what my opinion was on, erm, tut, on whether they were okay leaving the,
the doors unlocked, because she was saying ‘ IS IT BETTER THAT IF MADELEINE
WAKES UP SHE CAN GET OUT AND FIND US or erm, locking it and, you know, finding
that we’re not there and the door’s locked if she woke up.’
Kate McCann speaking as to
whether Madeleine could get out of the apartment - Kate McCann
interview on Late Show:
“And even if they want to
say theoretically ‘Oh she (Madeleine) wandered out of the back door of the
apartment’ basically saying a three year old has:
Opened the long curtains,
closed them behind her.
Opened the patio doors,
closed them behind her.
Opened the gate at the top
of the stairs, closed it behind her. (A child security gate)
And, done the same at the bottom, it’s just not, it’s just not
possible!”
What
is just not possible is for both statements to
be true.
Should Kate McCann and Fiona Payne, in fact the entire
group of friends ever find themselves being questioned in a Court of Law they
too may find the Sheriff giving them a warning!
Big question – Did Metropolitan Police question this pair regarding the many inconsistencies in their stories? Did they discover which of the two was telling the truth if any of them, as Counsel in the above trial said - of the differing answers by the witness, and as I said in Best Friends of the statements given by Kate McCann and Fiona Payne -
They cannot both be true!
Redwood and the Met know this too!
